Hamilton Island
Whitehaven beach
This morning we were up and organised for breakfast in plenty of time to then head to the marina to board a boat to take us out to Whitehaven beach.
We had a nice trip out there, with mostly calm waters. We moored about 100 metres off Whitehaven beach and, rather than accept the offer of getting onto the beach on the boat’s dinghy, we decided to swim in. We were mindful of the fact that the local Irukandji jellyfish season had just started and that many people have died from a sting from these tiny (1-2cm) and nearly invisible creatures. They are one of the most venomous jellyfish in the world, which is why the crew of the boat suggested that we wear stinger suits (which the sensible one of us did!).

The sand on Whitehaven Beach consists of about 98% silica, which is almost pure quartz, which gives the beach a luminescent look and feel, making it quite beautiful.
After a nice day at Whitehaven beach, we got back to the resort late in the afternoon. After getting changed, we hopped into our gold cart and headed to Cat’s Eye Bay, where we had a very nice dinner at Coca Chu.
After a big day, we then headed back to the resort and retired to bed.
