We had a bit of a sleep-in this morning so it was a bit of a rush to get down to breakfast before it finished at 10:30am. We had a very nice breakfast before heading out for a walk around the city of Cusco.

We did a bit of shopping and enjoyed walking around the city for a few hours. Cusco gets around two million visitors per year and the local artists are ready to sell them all something! It can be challenging to walk through the streets without being stopped to look at local artwork every few minutes! But all of the sellers were very friendly, so it is not really an imposition. In fact, we found the people of Peru in general to be beautiful and friendly people.

After walking around for a while, our leg muscles reminded us of what we did yesterday (trekking at Machu Picchu) so we decided we should head back to the hotel.

Once back at the hotel we had some lunch and packed our suitcases again before heading to the airport for our flight to Lima. We got to the airport in plenty of time and just relaxed while we waited for the flight to board. Once on board we settled in for the 90-minute flight to Lima. We were met at Lima airport by our driver who negotiated the crazy Lima traffic to get us to our hotel. Lima has a population of around nine million people, making it the third most populous city in the Americas (behind Mexico City and São Paulo but ahead of New York) so the traffic is probably always heavy.

We checked into the hotel and then debated about what we’d do for dinner. Since it was pretty late by this stage, we opted for room service and we both had a very nice bowl of spaghetti.

It’s now time for bed, with the plan being to get up reasonably early tomorrow morning to get out and explore Lima.
