We were up early this morning to meet downstairs in the lobby for a 7:15 am departure to the train station.

After some delays resulting from a bus breakdown and various Covid testing logistics, we eventually made it to the station.

Once we boarded the train, we located our cabins, and then all met up in the bar. We travelled for a few hours before reaching our first stop, at Katherine.

Buses were ready and waiting at Katherine for the short trip to the spectacular sandstone country of Nitmiluk National Park and the majestic Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge.

We had a short walk from the bus down to the gorge and then along the water’s edge to get on our boat. Along the way we stopped and admired the 40,000 year-old art gallery that lines the gorge.

It was a very hot day today (as it is most days up here!) so we were pleased to get on the boat and get a bit of shelter from the sun.

The scenery along the gorge was very spectacular and we thoroughly enjoyed the cruise.

At the end of the cruise we trekked back along the gorge to the bus to return to the train. It was nice to get back to the train ad have a shower and change into fresh clothes. We then headed to the bar for a drink and to our table for a beautiful dinner.

By the time we returned to our cabin, our bed had been prepared and were very ready to get into it and get some sleep after a big day.

We’ll be travelling overnight and will arrive in Alice Springs tomorrow morning.
