Today we headed out of Melbourne, bound for Hawaiʻi. Our driver picked us up mid-afternoon and we got to the airport in plenty of time for our 3:45 pm flight to Sydney. We had a nice flight, arriving in Sydney just after 5:00 pm. We headed straight for the international transfer bus area and were pretty quickly on the bus to the international terminal. Our next stop was the Qantas lounge for dinner.

There was a bit of a rush to scoff down dessert before we headed to the gate but the Qantas deconstructed pavlova is just too good to leave unfinished!

We departed Sydney around 7:30 pm and had a very restful flight to Honolulu. After clearing immigration in Honolulu we headed for the lounge to relax for a couple of hours before boarding our Hawaiʻian Airlines flight to Kauai.

After landing in Kauaʻi we were met by our driver, who took us to the Koa Kea Hotel, our base for the next few days. We checked in and headed out to get some dinner. (As a result of the time zone difference, we left at dinner time on Monday night and arrived on Kauaʻi at dinner time on Monday night.)

For dinner, we ended up getting a pizza just across the road from the hotel. We both felt like pizza but we had forgotten that American pizza is its own unique style (which is the politest way that we can say that it was very big and very ordinary.) We did find a nice gelato store for dessert though!

After dinner, we walked back to the hotel along the beach.

We got back to the hotel around 8:00 pm and headed back to our room for an early night.

We’re thinking of hiring a car tomorrow and doing some exploring on the island. But for now, it’s off to bed after a big day!
