After a good night’s sleep, we got down to breakfast at around 9:00 am.

After a nice breakfast, we hopped into the car and headed toward the island’s north shore.

Our first stop was the beautiful Wailua Falls. This was a rather popular spot and parking (at the end of a long and narrow road) was at a premium!

From the falls we headed to the beautiful old town of Hanalei. Hanalei is a surfing town, untouched by big business and fast food chains. It has a great feel to it and it was fun to just wander around the town and soak in the atmosphere.

Hanalei is very near to the end of the road to north shore so we had to back-track from there to our next stop, the Kilauea Lighthouse.

Our final stop for the day was the Spouting Horn blowhole, one of the most photographed spots on Kauaʻi. The Poʻipū surf channels into a natural lava tube here and releases a huge spout of water that shoots into the air.

With plenty of miles covered over the last two days, we headed back to the hotel for dinner. We decided to sit by the pool for dinner, where we enjoyed a fabulous feast of Caesar salad with Ahi tuna, fish tacos, and coconut shrimp.

After dinner we went for a lovely walk along the beach and waited until dark for the huge sea turtles to emerge from the water. There was quite a crowd gathered at the spot the turtles normally appear. We waited patiently, frequently sprinting for cover from intermittent rain storms, and then walking back to the beach. The turtles were very majestic and it was worth the wait and the rain.

We had a lovely walk back along the beachto the hotel, watching the sun dip below the horizon for the day.

We had planned to retire for the evening but we decided that the gelato at Papalani Gelato was too good to pass up for the final time. So, we headed across to treat ourselves to a serve of gelato.

Tomorrow we will need to be up a bit earlier because we are heading back to Honolulu.
