The flight from Perth to London took just over 17 hours and we arrived in London this morning at the rather unseemly time of 5:10 am. Our driver was waiting for us and we had a nice trip to The Berkeley Hotel, where we are staying for five nights. By 6:30 am we were checked in and settled into our room.

After having a shower and getting changed into fresh clothes we left the hotel to walk across Hyde Park and up to St John’s Wood to take a few photos on the pedestrian crossing made famous by The Beatles on the cover of their 1969 album Abbey Road.

We bought a few things at the Abbey Road Studio shop before walking back to Oxford Street, where we stopped for a fresh juice since we had covered about 8km on foot by this stage and were a little parched. Our next stop was lunch at Bao Soho, a tiny and very in-demand Korean restaurant. We had a lovely lunch but ordered way too much food!

After lunch, we walked back to Mayfair to do a little shopping. Walking through Mayfair we admired some of the outrageous cars parked around the area. We had already seen a pretty wild Bentley parked at our hotel but there is never any shortage of other interesting cars to admire.

We got back to the hotel late in the afternoon, where yet more snacks were waiting for us!

At around 6:45 pm we went downstairs to the hotel restaurant, where we had a lovely dinner. We’re now back in the room, having had a very full day.

Tomorrow we’re off to Buckingham Palace for a tour. The tour is on only for a limited period each year and despite us having been to London too many times to count, this is the first time we’ve managed to time our stay within the window in which the palace opens for visitors, so we are really looking forward to this.
