This morning we were up very early to get ourselves organised. The alarm went off at 7:15 am and we struggled to get out of bed and get going. Even though we had only been in the Macq 01 hotel for one night, we had to pack up again this morning to check out so we could head to The Tasman hotel for the next two nights. We could have stayed at the Macq 01 but our friends Peter and Joy were flying down from Melbourne to meet us and we wanted to move so that we were all in the same hotel. We managed to pack and get downstairs in time for breakfast before heading to The Tasman, checking in there, and then setting off for the airport to meet Peter and Joy.

We picked up Peter and Joy at around 10:00 am at Hobart Airport and then headed back into town. We caught up over a coffee and then set out to explore a couple of the local shops. Around midday we got back into the car and headed out to Mona (the Museum of Old and New Art), the largest privately funded museum in the Southern Hemisphere.

Known for its central themes of sex and death, the museum has been described by its owner, David Walsh, as a “subversive adult Disneyland”. The museum’s exhibits range from thought-provoking to completely bizarre!

After wandering around in the museum for about two-and-a-half hours, we headed to the museum’s restaurant, Faro.

The art theme continued in the restaurant. The food was nice but the experience was, overall, extremely odd!

By the time we finished lunch it was nearly 5:00 pm! We hopped back in the car and drove back into town to the hotel.

We relaxed over drinks at the hotel for a couple of hours before heading downstairs for dinner at Peppina, the hotel’s Italian restaurant, where we had a lovely meal.

Tomorrow we’re thinking about going to the street market in Salamanca Place in the morning and then improvising after that.
