Exploring Hobart
We managed to get a bit of a sleep-in this morning, which was nice. We met Peter and Joy for breakfast around 9:30 am. We had a leisurely breakfast and then headed out to the Salamanca Market, just a short walk from the hotel. The market was pretty busy and we enjoyed wandering through it.

After the market there was some deliberation about what to do next.

We decided to walk through the very pretty dock area, without any specific agenda.

After a bit of window shopping we decided to walk to the Mawson’s Huts Replica Museum, located on the Hobart waterfront just 200 metres from where Mawson’s expedition departed from in 1911. The museum was built to raise funds for the ongoing conservation of the historic buildings at Cape Denison, which were used as the main base for the 1911-14 Australasian Antarctic Expedition.

After the museum, we headed off for a walk through the city to a Japanese restaurant called Bar Wa Izakaya, where we had a very nice lunch.

Since Peter and Joy were flying out this afternoon, we headed back to the hotel to collect their luggage (and load them up the wine we bought that they had graciously agreed to carry back for us!). We then drove them out to the airport, said goodbye, and drove back to the hotel.
We got back to our room a bit after 5:00 pm and ended up having a nap. We woke around 7:00 pm and then debated what to do for dinner. We considered having room service but decided instead to go out and find something. We located a nice little pizza restaurant called Ti Ama, just a few minutes away from the hotel, on The Esplanade. The restaurant was serving a set menu so we ended up with more food that we needed.

After dinner we wandered back to the hotel. Given that the temperature was only about 8C, we were glad that we didn’t have too far to walk. We got back to the hotel around 9:30 pm. We spent a bit of time packing our cases back up so we’re reasonably organised for our departure tomorrow morning.
We’re now heading to bed. Tomorrow we’ll be up early to head to the airport for our flight back home to Melbourne.
