Around The World
From Music City to the Windy City
We got up around 8:00 am this morning after a slightly disjointed sleep (which we attribute to the rather rich dinner we had last night!). We had a nice breakfast in the hotel. We sampled the local “biscuit” with butter and strawberries. It was quite nice but we didn’t get through it all.

After breakfast we headed out to a local shopping centre in west Nashville to pick up a couple of things. Getting an Uber back took a little longer than expected and it was nearly midday by the time we got back to the hotel to re-pack, check out, and get into another Uber to head to the airport.
Once we checked in for our flight to Chicago, we went to the lounge and relaxed. Our flight departed on time at 3:30 pm and we got into Chicago a little before 5:30 pm. We hopped into an Uber and headed for our hotel, The Peninsula. We had a better-than-expected run through the traffic and got to the hotel around 6:30 pm. We checked in and went upstairs to quickly shower and change.

We headed downstairs just after 7:00 pm to meet our dear friends, Earl and Sue. We haven’t seen each other for a few years but we picked right up again like it was only yesterday we last saw each other.
We went for a drive around Chicago, with Earl and Sue giving us an information-rich commentary on many of the city’s notable features. We stopped at a nice spot by the lake to get a photo looking back at the city.

We then drove back to Earl and Sue’s place for a fantastic evening of food, wine, and great conversation. Sue had gone to a lot of trouble to put together a Chicago-style dinner (including a salad bar!), which we thoroughly appreciated.

Before we knew it, it was nearly 1:30 am so we called for an Uber to take us back to the hotel. Tomorrow (later today, really!), we plan to catch up for breakfast with Earl and Sue in the morning and then spend the day enjoying Chicago together.
