Around The World
In the Big Apple
We felt a bit fragile this morning after not enough sleep last night. We were up early and out of our room by 8:00 am. We said goodbye to our valet, Galih, who had done a wonderful job of looking after us for the last ten days.
While we waited to disembark, we chatted to some of the people we met over the last ten days. We said goodbye to the captain and disembarked at about 8:45 am. After passing through immigration, we were going to book an Uber but we found a taxi right out the front, so we hopped in and made our way out to the airport. The traffic was surprisingly light and we were in the terminal by about 9:15 am. We checked in, passed through security (which was uncommonly smooth), and headed to the lounge. The American Airlines lounge in Miami is very nice, which was good because we had a wait of about four hours in the lounge before our flight boarded.

We boarded around 1:30 pm and pushed back on time at 1:55 pm. But the captain then come on the PA system and advised that we’d been asked to hold for a while (which we surmised was to do with weather in New York). We ended up taking off about half an hour late and made up some time on the way.

Our first approach into Newark airport was aborted so all the time we had made up on the way was lost to a go-around
but we got down on our second attempt. We disembarked and headed to the baggage carousel to collect our suitcases.
After an inordinate wait for our cases to appear, we got into our waiting car and headed through the early evening
traffic from New Jersey across the river to The Mark, our hotel in New York.

We debated whether to go out for dinner but we opted for room service instead.

We’re aiming for a relatively early night tonight so we can hit the ground running tomorrow and get out in the city.
