Around The World
Home in Melbourne
We landed in Melbourne at around 1:15 pm today, 56 days after we left on our around-the-world trip.

After flying, cruising, and driving about 50,000 kilometres across five continents, it’s been a big trip. It’s hard to pick out a few highlights from such an amazing trip. We’ve written nearly 40,000 words of text (about 80 pages) and posted nearly 1,600 photos (out of more than 10,000 taken!) in this blog, such was the scale of this trip!
We loved catching up with friends we hadn’t seen for a while (Earl and Sue in Chicago, and Simon and Mags in London), as well as making new friends (Jeff and Penny, whom we met on the Caribbean cruise).
With regard to locations new to us, the highlights were Fes in Morocco, Cairo and Luxor in Egypt, Petra in Jordan, and Agra in India. But we loved almost everywhere we went. In fact, we agreed that there probably wasn’t a bad day on the whole trip. There are places that we may not visit again (and airlines that we probably won’t fly on again!) but, all in all, we had fun every single day.
Part of the value of travelling is getting a broader perspective on the world. We certainly enjoyed interacting with people across a wide range of cultures and, no doubt, we are richer for the experience. (And we know that quite a lot of vendors are certainly richer for the experience of having met us!)
If we were to do it all again, we probably wouldn’t change too much, so that probably means we got it about right.
We’re now looking forward to our next trip, wherever that may be.
