We met around 8:45 am this morning for our last breakfast on Lizard Island, since we’re flying out today.

We went for a walk after breakfast and along the way we saw the supply ship come in to the island to re-stock supplies. Lizard Island is very remote and relies on everything being delivered. It was quite the exercise to get the cargo unloaded and transported across the beach.

After packing our bags, we hopped on a golf cart to go back to the airport. Along the way, we say our first (and only!) lizard of the trip. The name Lizard Island was bestowed by Captain Cook when he landed on 12 August 1770 and observed an abundant population of lizards.

We took off about midday for a short hop to Cooktown for refuelling.

We left Cooktown around 1:00 pm, headed for Maroochydore Airport on the Sunshine Coast, where we’ll be spending a few days at Peter and Joy’s house, before flying back to Melbourne on Sunday.
