Today we set off at 10:00 am for a week-long trip along the south coast of Victoria, across to the Adelaide Hills, and back via Dunkeld. Our destination for today was Port Fairy.
After a wonderfully long sleep last night, we got up at about 8:30 am and got to breakfast at about 9:15 am. We enjoyed a lovely breakfast while discussing the plans for the day. After packing up our room and checking out, we headed a few minutes down the road to Griffiths Island, at the end of the Moyne River, to walk out to the lighthouse. After our walk, we were pretty hot so we decided to drive back into town to pick up some bottles of water from the supermarket for the drive.
We were up at a reasonable time this morning so we could get on the road by mid-morning. We enjoyed a nice breakfast before embarking on the drive to the Adelaide Hills. About 40km from Robe we decided to turn inland and head up the Riddoch Highway to go via the town of Keith. After looking around Keith, we got back in the car for the remainder of the drive to Adelaide, a distance of about 150km.
Today is Andrea's birthday! We have a relaxing day planned around the resort before going to dinner tonight to celebrate. We started the day with a sleep-in, before heading to the dining room for a very nice breakfast. We were scheduled to go out on a walk at 10:00 am, but we pushed that back so we could relax over an extra coffee. We headed out just after 10:30 am for a lovely guided walk from the resort toward the peak of Mount Lofty and then into the Clelland National.
We were up and organised reasonably early this morning in preparation for our trip out to the Barossa Valley. We enjoyed a lovely breakfast before setting off mid-morning. Our main reason for visiting the Barossa Valley was to meet up with our very dear family friends, Miffy and John, whom we haven't seen for many years.
After a good night's sleep last night, we got to breakfast relatively early this morning. We enjoyed a lovely breakfast, taking in the beautiful view over the valley. We pulled out of the resort gate at 9:30 am and set off on the six-hour drive to Dunkeld. We opted for the shortest route, which meant we spent a lot of time on narrow (but very scenic) back roads. We got to Dunkeld around 4:15 pm and checked into the Royal Mail Hotel.
This morning we headed out to a local cafe for breakfast with Peter and Joy. After breakfast, we hopped in the car for a very short drive to (a small section of) the Royal Mail Hotel's vegetable garden (Australia’s largest working restaurant kitchen garden). The tour was conducted by Robin Wickens, the head chef at the hotel.
Even though we weren't really hungry this morning, we walked across the road for a coffee (tea for Andrea) and some toast with Vegemite.
