Today we set off for Kangaroo Island with our friends, Peter and Joy. We took off around 10:45 am and landed at Kingscote Airport on Kangaroo Island after a very pleasant flight of about an hour. On landing, we picked up a car and headed 85km southwest to the beautiful Southern Ocean Lodge, where we'll be spending the next few days.
We were up early this morning to meet for a quick bit of breakfast before heading out for the first of the day's activities. We left the lodge around 9 am and headed for the Flinders Chase National Park to observe the fur seals at Admirals Arch. Our next stop was just a short drive away, at the Cape du Couedic lighthouse.
We had an early start this morning, with a quick breakfast before departing the lodge at 8:30 am for a visit to the Seal Bay Conservation Park, a drive of about 60km. The seals seemed quite oblivious to our presence, but we had to remain alert to the possibility of being charged by any of them if we got too close.
We had a (relative) sleep-in this morning, getting to breakfast around 9 am. Despite being a little cold today, the weather is relatively clear and the view across the water is very pretty. We enjoyed a very leisurely breakfast, reflecting on how much we have enjoyed our time here. We checked out mid-morning and hopped in the car for the drive back to the airport, in the town of Kingscote. We stopped for a fabulous lunch at a very cute little restaurant called So Sando before dropping off the car and boarding the plane for the ride home. The flight home was very pleasant and the approach into Melbourne afforded great views of the city. We landed in Melbourne around 3:45 pm, having thoroughly enjoyed our time on Kangaroo Island.
